About - Web Presence...
One no longer has "just" a website on the internet anymore. More and more, people (and companies...) have different pages, sites, blogs, etc scattered on many different hosts in many different "applications". Between blogs, MySpace, YouTube/other video hosts, online albums, and so on..., ones "presence" on the web is becoming extremely distributed.
My Web Presence
- Martinator.com -- This Site.
- LinkedIn -- a business oriented social networking site, mainly used for professional networking.
- motionbased.com -- My actual bike rides as logged by my GPS device. Garmin acquired this site and will soon retire iy. Too bad as they are replacing it with a prettier site with less features.
- mapmyride.com -- Another site to post my bike rides with the added feature of calculating how many calories I burned. I love their route creation tool!
- Flickr -- Yahoo!'s photo album. Interates better with Google's Blogger that Google's own Picasa Web App.
- YouTube.com -- I messed around with YouTube a little.
- FaceBook -- Like MySpace, only for people with higher IQs and better taste. Unlike MySpace, FaceBook wasn't founded by spammers. FaceBook has successfully personalized the web.
- MyOpera -- Yet another "My Page". This time on Opera's Site. Opera is a cool, Web Standards based browser that I use for testing the work that I do. I use my space there to store files. I think there is something cool about storing some files in Finland :-)
- My Tripadvisor.com Profile -- A brand new service from the folks at TripAdvisor.com.
- MySpace -- I set up a MySpace account to see what it is all about. MySpace allows an entire new population of people to create crappy looking website with ease.
I imagine I may have others out there. I just don't remember what they are at the moment... Managing ones "web presence" may become an increasing problem as more and more services and "social newtworking" sites come online.
